Tomorrow night, March 11th, Brewer’s Alley in Frederick, MD presents its weekly songwriter showcase. I’ll be a part of that show along with the duos Basswood, Erik and Amy, and the night’s feature performer Tony Denikos. Wavy Gravy alter-ego Jimbow starts the evening with his off-the-cuff piano and melodica jams. As always, the brain trust that includes Rod Deacy, Ron Goad, Todd Walker, and Tomy Wright bring an outstanding show to Brewer’s Alley that challenges music lovers to forget that it is Monday night – and hey, shouldn’t we just be at home chillin’?
Last Thursday, I was part of the 9 Songwriter Series show, hosted by Justin Trawick. Justin brought his traveling songwriter showcase to Gaithersburg, MD and a fairly packed house was treated to two-plus hours of performing songwriters bringing their best stuff to an audience eager for more. The week before last, I joined Justin and his showcase in Baltimore for another fantastic show.
The easy thing…the typical thing, is to wait until the weekend to make your live music choice. But if you limit yourself to what you can see on Friday and Saturday night, you are bound to miss many of the best shows around. This is especially true if you want to be able to actually listen to the music unfettered by the sounds of the group next to you raising their voices to be heard over the din of other groups doing the same.
So, the next time you want to go out and hear some good music, don’t wait until Friday or Saturday. You can start tomorrow at Brewer’s Alley in Frederick. The show starts with Jimbow at 7:30. My set falls somewhere between 8 and 9:00. Tony comes on around 9:00. The regulars at this night spot come for the music and the camaraderie. You should join them.
